Addiesdive AD2529 Review – A Vintage Racing Chrono Powered by a Seiko Meca-Quartz Caliber

The Addiesdive AD2529 is one of the newer chronograph releases from the brand, arriving toward the latter part of 2025. Having seen a number of chronographs come through from Addiesdive over that period, this one immediately feels a little more distinctive in its direction. It leans more confidently into a vintage racing chronograph aesthetic, both in its proportions and in the way the dial has been put together.

What stood out to me straight away is the combination of elements. You still get a K1 mineral crystal, which may not suit everyone, but it comes in a tall boxed form with a slight dome and anti-reflective coating. Paired with a stainless steel case and a layered, colorful dial, it creates a watch that feels visually engaging from the outset.

    Design & Case

The AD2529 measures 38 mm in diameter, with a thickness of 12.5 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 48 mm. These proportions place it firmly within classic chronograph territory, and on the wrist it feels balanced without leaning oversized. The 20 mm lug width keeps strap options straightforward and in line with what you would expect from a watch in this category.

A significant part of the watch’s presence comes from the crystal. The boxed K1 mineral crystal rises noticeably above the case and carries a slight dome on top of the boxed structure. This adds verticality and reinforces the vintage profile of the watch.

The case itself is constructed with a layered approach. A horizontally brushed central flank runs around the mid-case, while polished surfaces sit above and below it, creating a clear visual separation. The lug hoods are polished and catch the light easily, while the lugs curve downward quite aggressively, dropping away from the case in a distinctly vintage style. Drilled lugs further support that retro direction and make strap changes more practical. The overall geometry remains smooth and continuous, with no harsh edges.

    Movement & Crown

Inside the AD2529 sits the VK64 meca-quartz chronograph movement. This combines quartz timekeeping with a mechanically actuated chronograph, offering a hybrid setup that aligns well with the watch’s racing-inspired design. The design language here will feel familiar to anyone drawn to chronograph watches.

The crown is a push-pull type, measuring 6.8 mm in diameter and signed with the Addiesdive logo. On either side, the chronograph pushers measure 4.4 mm across and feature tapered, threaded-style detailing on their tips. This detailing gives them a more mechanical, tool-like appearance rather than a simple polished finish.

Turning the watch over reveals a screw-down stainless steel caseback with the key specifications engraved around the perimeter. This construction supports a stated water resistance of 100 meters. That said, with a push-pull crown, it does raise some hesitation around treating it as a true dive-ready watch.

    Bezel

The AD2529 uses a fixed bezel that sits cleanly beneath the crystal and forms part of the overall case structure. It provides a neat visual frame for the dial without drawing attention away from the central display.

Its role here is primarily structural and visual. It creates a clean boundary between the case and the crystal, allowing the height of the boxed crystal and the detailing of the dial to define the watch’s character. In practice, this works well with the vintage racing chronograph aesthetic, keeping the focus on the dial layout and color accents.

    Strap

The watch comes fitted with a 20 mm silicone rubber strap, keeping the overall setup simple and functional. The strap is soft and flexible, allowing it to conform easily to the wrist. It also features quick-release spring bars, which makes swapping straps straightforward and tool-free.

The strap is secured with a polished buckle clasp. The buckle itself is unsigned and fairly simple in execution. Two floating keepers are included to manage excess strap length and keep everything sitting cleanly on the wrist.

At this price point, the simplicity of the buckle becomes noticeable. While it performs its function without issue, it lacks the same level of detail found elsewhere on the watch. It is not a deal breaker, but it is something that stands out when looking at the overall package.

    Crystal & Dial

The crystal plays a central role in the AD2529’s overall look. It is a tall boxed K1 mineral crystal with a slight dome and anti-reflective coating. The height of the crystal adds to the watch’s thickness and reinforces its vintage character. At the edges, there is a subtle distortion effect that gives the dial a period-correct appearance without affecting legibility.

Beneath the crystal, the dial follows a classic tachymeter-driven racing layout. The tachymeter scale runs around the outer perimeter, framing a glossy dark green dial surface. Between 1 and 3 o’clock, red and yellow accents break up the scale and signal the chronograph function.

Two black sub-dials sit within the dial, both featuring a sunburst finish and a square shape with rounded corners. The sub-dial at 3 o’clock displays a 24-hour register, while the sub-dial at 9 o’clock houses the running seconds. The sub-dials sit cleanly within the dial and reinforce the vintage motorsport influence.

The main hands are baton-style, while the sub-dial hands introduce contrast with yellow at 3 o’clock and bright orange at 9 o’clock. The central chronograph seconds hand is also bright orange, tying in visually with the rest of the layout. Lume is applied to the hour markers and to the hour and minute hands, emitting a bright blue glow that is evenly applied and long-lasting. The chronograph seconds hand and running seconds hand are not loomed, which limits their usability in low light. We’ve covered several Addiesdive watches before, and this one continues the brand’s established design language.

    Summary

The Addiesdive AD2529 is a chronograph that leans heavily into its vintage racing identity while maintaining a clear and focused execution. The proportions are well judged, the case finishing is layered and cohesive, and the boxed crystal adds a strong visual presence.

The VK64 meca-quartz movement provides reliable chronograph functionality, and the dial delivers a motorsport-inspired layout with thoughtful use of color and contrast. There are compromises, particularly with the mineral crystal and the absence of lume on the chronograph hands, but these are consistent with the watch’s price point.

At around $85 before tax, the AD2529 presents itself as a distinctive and visually engaging chronograph that stands out within the budget segment. At roughly this level of spend, buyers are spoiled for choice, with several strong competitors available.
