Atomi Shine Velocirex Review – A Unique Racing Chronograph with Sapphire
The Atomi Shine Velocirex is one of those chronographs that immediately gives off a more premium impression than its category might suggest. On paper, it brings together a stainless steel case, a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and a bracelet constructed with screw pins rather than push pins. That alone sets a certain expectation.
What stands out even more, though, is the execution. The bracelet in particular feels notably solid, with tight tolerances and smooth articulation that you do not always encounter at this level. Combined with a racing-inspired dial and a quartz chronograph movement, the Velocirex positions itself as a watch focused on build quality and everyday usability. In stainless steel the chronograph will set you back $189, while the carbon fibre variant will cost $399.
Design & Case
The Velocirex measures 39 mm in diameter, with a thickness of 11.5 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 50 mm. That extended length is largely due to the protruding male end links. On paper, 50 mm can seem long for a 39 mm case, but the lugs taper toward slightly pointed ends, which visually reduces that span and keeps the profile from feeling overly blocky.

The overall character leans clearly into a racing chronograph theme. The dial takes cues from automotive instrumentation, and that direction carries through to the case architecture. The lugs are wide set, giving the watch a more assertive stance when viewed from above.
Along the sides, the case flanks are polished and slightly rounded, almost convex in profile. The mid-case itself is relatively tall, which adds presence despite the moderate diameter. Transitions between the flanks and the lug hoods are handled through smooth bevels, and even with these rounded transitions, the execution remains crisp and well defined. Beneath the flank, the fluted screw-down caseback is visible, reinforcing the layered construction. Readers familiar with Atomi Shine will recognize many of the design cues also seen in their previous models.
Movement & Crown
The watch is powered by the Miyota OS20, a Japanese quartz chronograph movement. It is a widely used caliber in this segment, chosen for its durability and reliability. The movement operates with a standard quartz cadence, meaning the seconds hand ticks once per second rather than sweeping.

When resetting the chronograph, the central seconds hand does not snap instantly back to zero. Instead, it sweeps forward to return to the 12 o’clock position. The movement is rated for a battery life of up to 60 months, or roughly five years, which adds a practical advantage for everyday use.
The crown is a screw-in type, measuring 6.8 mm in diameter. It is unsigned and features deep, notchy threading, making it easy to grip and operate. The crown is guarded, offering protection without interrupting the symmetry of the case too heavily. On either side, the chronograph pushers are screwed in, with the top pusher starting the chronograph and the bottom pusher resetting it.
Bezel
The Velocirex uses a fixed black tachymeter bezel with a white printed scale. It sits just beneath the sapphire crystal and plays a structural role in framing the dial.

The bezel integrates cleanly into the case architecture, maintaining a consistent profile without introducing additional bulk. Its placement and finish reinforce the chronograph identity of the watch, keeping the focus on timing functions through the dial rather than external manipulation.
Bracelet
The bracelet is one of the standout elements of the Velocirex. It uses a three-link configuration, with polished center links and brushed outer links. The outer faces of the links are also brushed, which keeps the finishing cohesive rather than overly reflective.

The polished center strip aligns with the polished lug hoods, creating a continuous line of reflection from the case into the bracelet. This visual continuity adds to the sense of refinement.
Construction is handled through screw pins, and the difference is immediately noticeable. The bracelet feels solid, with no rattling and no visible stretch when pulled. Link articulation is smooth, allowing the bracelet to drape naturally on the wrist. Integration with the case is tight, with no looseness at the end links.

Sizing is managed through a butterfly clasp, which keeps the underside clean and symmetrical. However, there are no half links, and with individual link lengths of approximately 9.22 mm, achieving a perfect fit can be more difficult if you fall between sizes.
Crystal & Dial
The Velocirex uses a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The crystal sits slightly above the fixed bezel, creating a subtle step that helps define the layers of the case. The anti-reflective treatment maintains clarity, particularly against the high-contrast dial.
Beneath the crystal is a brushed, inward-sloping rehaut. This surface draws the eye toward the center of the dial, acting as a visual frame and reinforcing the instrument-inspired layout.

The dial itself is built on a white base, with a green accent segment on the left and a red segment on the right. The layout clearly references automotive gauge design. Under 12, the brand name is printed in black, while a double baton marker at 12 and elongated batons at the remaining hours provide orientation. All indices are edged in chrome and filled with lume.
At 3 o’clock, there is a 24-hour register. At 6, a running seconds sub-dial with a yellow accent, and at 9, a 60-minute counter. The hour and minute hands are baton-style and loomed, while the central chronograph seconds hand is arrow-shaped. Lume performance is evenly applied, with green glow on the hands and blue on the indices. It is usable, though longevity is moderate.
Summary
The Atomi Shine Velocirex is a chronograph that places clear emphasis on build quality and structural execution. The case design is cohesive, the dial is distinctive, and the sapphire crystal contributes to overall clarity and durability.

Where it stands out most is in the bracelet. The use of screw pins, tight tolerances, and strong articulation give it a level of solidity that exceeds expectations at this level. The Miyota OS20 movement reinforces the watch’s practical nature, offering reliability and long battery life.
There are minor limitations, particularly with the butterfly clasp and the lack of half links, but these do not overshadow the overall experience. The Velocirex presents itself as a well-built, visually engaging chronograph designed for everyday wear. We’ve reviewed other chronographs that capture a similar balance of function and aesthetic restraint.
Verdict
This suits a buyer who wants a quartz chronograph with stronger build quality than the usual budget offering, especially if bracelet solidity and everyday practicality matter more than mechanical appeal. It makes sense for someone after a sporty daily wearer with a distinct motorsport slant and low-maintenance ownership.
The main compromise is fit precision: the butterfly clasp and lack of half links may frustrate those who are particular about sizing. If that is manageable, it is an easy watch to recommend in its segment. If you’re budgeting around the $200 range, there are a few noteworthy options we’ve already covered
