Addiesdive AD2118 Review – The Stunning Ripple Dial That Redefines Budget Dress Watches
The Addiesdive AD2118 holds a surprisingly important place in the AliExpress watch scene. Long before textured dials became commonplace in the budget segment, this was one of the first watches to introduce a genuinely convincing ripple texture rather than something that simply looked sandy or stamped flat. Even now, years later, the dial remains the defining feature of the watch.
What makes the AD2118 interesting is that it does not rely purely on the dial to carry the experience. Alongside the Grand Seiko-inspired aesthetic, you also get a boxed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, a compact stainless steel case, a screw-in crown, and a Seiko NH35 self-winding automatic movement. At around the $120 mark before tax, it positions itself as a dress-leaning watch that still tries to deliver enthusiast-oriented specifications. This piece shares its personality with several watches that emphasize a dressy-sport aesthetic, like a few Proxima watches we reviewed.
Design & Case
The AD2118 measures 38.5 mm across, 13.7 mm thick, and 46.5 mm lug to lug. The watch wears compactly thanks to its inverted end links, while the 20 mm lug width tapering to 16 mm at the clasp helps keep the overall profile balanced on the wrist. A large part of the watch’s height comes from the tall boxed and domed sapphire crystal, which gives the case a noticeably layered appearance.

Stylistically, the watch clearly leans toward the Grand Seiko Omiwatari aesthetic. The fully polished case flank carries a soft rounded profile, while the sharply tapering lugs curve aggressively downward to improve wrist presence. Despite the rounded architecture, the transitions remain crisp. The vertically brushed lug hoods also match the brushing direction of the end links, helping the bracelet integrate surprisingly well into the case design. Fans of dress watches may find familiar strengths here, particularly in terms of layout and proportions.
Movement & Crown
Inside the Addiesdive AD2118 sits the Seiko NH35 automatic movement. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, uses 24 jewels, and delivers around 41 hours of power reserve. The movement remains one of the most proven and widely used automatic calibers in the affordable watch space thanks to its reliability and straightforward operation.

On the right side of the case sits a signed screw-down crown measuring 5.3 mm across. It remains fairly restrained visually, which suits the dress-oriented direction of the watch. Combined with the screw-down case back, the construction supports 100 meters of water resistance, adding a level of practicality not always found in watches leaning this heavily into dress-watch territory.
Bezel
The Addiesdive AD2118 uses a tall fixed bezel that blends directly into the polished case structure. Rather than acting as a separate focal point, it mainly serves to frame the boxed sapphire crystal and reinforce the layered profile of the watch.

From side angles especially, the relationship between the polished bezel, the domed sapphire crystal, and the rounded case flank creates a more premium visual structure than the price would normally suggest. The added height from the crystal gives the watch a distinctly vintage-inspired dress-watch silhouette. Bracelet
The bracelet is visually one of the stronger aspects of the Addiesdive AD2118. It uses a J-style layout with brushed outer links and three polished center links, creating a good balance between dressy and sporty elements. On the wrist, it complements the polished case particularly well.

That said, some compromises become visible once you handle it more closely. The bracelet uses push pins rather than screw pins, and when flexed there is noticeable play and visible spacing between some of the links. The tolerances do feel budget in that respect.

Comfort, however, is genuinely strong. Link articulation and fluidity are excellent, allowing the bracelet to drape naturally around the wrist. The clasp is also a highlight, featuring a signed milled construction with five micro-adjustment positions, double push-button release, and a fully milled folding wing inside.
Crystal & Dial
The dial is unquestionably the centerpiece of the AD2118. Beneath the boxed and domed sapphire crystal sits a pastel sky blue surface finished with a deep ripple texture that creates impressive visual depth as light moves across it. Unlike cheaper textured dials that can appear flat or artificial, the ripple effect here feels genuinely dimensional.

The anti-reflective coating introduces subtle green and purple reflections under certain lighting conditions, though overall clarity remains very good. Applied steel baton markers frame the dial alongside a double baton at 12 o’clock, while a black printed minute track around the perimeter helps sharpen legibility.

At 3 o’clock sits a chrome-framed date window with strong contrast between the white date wheel and black text. The dauphine-style hands suit the dress-oriented design naturally, while the dark blue seconds hand sweeps smoothly across the textured surface thanks to the NH35 movement. Dial text remains minimal, with only the Addiesdive logo beneath 12 and “Automatic” alongside “100M” above 6 o’clock. There is no lume here, which feels entirely appropriate for the watch’s overall character.
Summary
The Addiesdive AD2118 still stands out because it was one of the first budget watches to execute a textured ripple dial properly, and even now the dial remains genuinely impressive for the money. It gives the watch a strong identity without relying on excessive detailing elsewhere.

Beyond the dial, the AD2118 delivers a very solid overall package. The boxed sapphire crystal, NH35 movement, screw-down crown, and milled clasp all help elevate the experience above what the price would normally suggest. The bracelet does reveal some cost-cutting in tolerances and construction, but once on the wrist, the watch remains comfortable and visually cohesive.
For anyone looking for a compact dress-oriented automatic with a distinctive dial and strong visual presence, the AD2118 still feels like one of the more memorable options in the sub-$120 category. This watch competes directly with others in a similar $50-$200 pricing bracket.
