The Militado ML27 marks a return to the brand’s earlier design language, moving away from the military and aviation-inspired watches that have become a familiar part of its collection. With compact proportions, a polished stainless steel case and a colourful small seconds display, the ML27 takes a more traditional approach to everyday watchmaking.
The model is available in several two-tone and three-tone dial configurations, although this white, blue and yellow variation is particularly appealing. Its lighter dial gives the compact case greater visual presence, while the automatic movement and sapphire crystal construction introduce a degree of mechanical interest beneath the restrained exterior. Priced just north of $100, puts the watch into one of most competitive sub $200 budget price brackets. Design & Case
The Militado ML27 measures 36mm in diameter, 9.6mm thick and 44.8mm lug-to-lug. These are compact proportions for an automatic watch, although the relatively broad lug spacing gives the case a more substantial appearance than its diameter alone might suggest.

The stainless steel case is entirely polished, with smooth, uninterrupted flanks and elegantly downturned lugs. Their almost hooked profile introduces a distinct architectural quality, while the drilled lug holes add a subtle utilitarian detail to an otherwise dress-oriented design.
What I particularly appreciate is the restraint of the case construction. There is very little visual interruption between the polished mid-case and the upper surfaces, allowing the shape of the lugs to provide much of the character.

The case is also remarkably slim. At just 9.6mm thick, the ML27 maintains a traditional dress watch profile despite housing a self-winding mechanical movement. The overall design feels rooted in vintage watchmaking, although the relatively wide strap arrangement gives it a more contemporary everyday character. There are a handful of everyday watches that capture a comparable balance between modern finishing and classic inspiration.
Movement & Crown
Inside the Militado ML27 is the Seagull SD701, a self-winding automatic movement operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3Hz. It provides approximately 38 hours of power reserve and drives the central hour and minute hands alongside a subsidiary seconds display. That broader perspective becomes more useful once comparable models enter the conversation, for example the Seestern S382 also powered by ST17.

The movement is visible through the exhibition caseback, which uses sapphire crystal rather than the mineral glass commonly found on more affordable watches. Together with the flat sapphire crystal above the dial, this creates a complete sapphire sandwich.
Through the rear display window, the decorated rotor, visible jewels and balance assembly introduce considerable mechanical interest. The movement presentation is particularly engaging given the otherwise minimalist character of the watch.
On the right-hand side sits a signed push-pull crown measuring 4.9mm across. Its finely notched exterior provides grip without disrupting the compact case profile.

I think the relatively small crown works particularly well here. Its restrained proportions are consistent with the vintage styling, while the automatic movement and slim construction remain among the more interesting technical aspects of the ML27. Bezel
The Militado ML27 takes a particularly minimalist approach to its bezel, with little more than a thin polished stainless steel frame surrounding the sapphire crystal.

Rather than introducing a substantial raised structure, the bezel forms a clean transition between the polished case and the flat, bevelled crystal above it. This keeps the watch’s front profile restrained and allows the dial to occupy most of the available visual space.
The sapphire crystal features an anti-reflective coating, while its bevelled perimeter provides a subtle finishing detail without introducing the pronounced curvature associated with more heavily vintage-inspired crystals. Viewed from above, the thin bezel reinforces the impression of a traditional dress watch. From the side, its limited height contributes to the ML27’s slim overall proportions.

I particularly appreciate this simplicity because the case already has enough visual character through its elongated, downward-curving lugs. A more substantial bezel would have introduced unnecessary weight into an otherwise carefully balanced design.
Strap
The ML27 comes fitted with a leather strap featuring a fine crisscross texture across its outer surface. Neatly executed stitching follows the edges, giving the strap a restrained appearance consistent with the watch’s classic styling.

Turning it over reveals a contrasting beige underside stamped Genuine Leather. The hardware consists of a polished milled stainless steel buckle, although neither the strap nor the buckle carries Militado branding. The strap uses quick-release spring bars, making changes straightforward without additional tools.
What makes the arrangement particularly interesting is its width. The ML27 uses a 20mm strap despite having a compact 36mm case, creating a noticeably broader stance than the 18mm proportions often associated with watches of this size. That additional width gives the watch a more contemporary appearance, particularly when combined with the relatively long, architectural lugs.

Despite their elongated shape, the strap sits surprisingly close to the case, helping balance the proportions. For me, this is an effective compromise between vintage-inspired construction and modern everyday wearability.
Crystal & Dial
Beneath the flat sapphire crystal sits a restrained but surprisingly colourful dial. A matte blue peripheral ring carries the printed minute chaptering, surrounding a clean white central surface with black Arabic numerals marking the even hours and simple baton indices occupying the remaining positions.

All markers are printed rather than applied, reinforcing the watch’s vintage character. The layout is uncomplicated, with no date window to interrupt its symmetry. At 6 o’clock, the conventional hour marker gives way to a recessed small seconds register finished in a saturated yellow. Unlike the surrounding matte surfaces, this register has a subtle sunburst effect, introducing a different interaction with light.
The recess creates a distinct step down, adding welcome dimensionality to an otherwise relatively flat dial. A contrasting white seconds hand completes the register, although it is not luminous. The main baton-style hands feature polished chrome surrounds with white luminous centres, while Militado branding remains restrained beneath 12.

After dark, blue lume illuminates the outer hour positions and main hands. It is neither particularly bright nor long-lasting compared with a dedicated diver, but it provides adequate visibility for everyday use.
Summary
The Militado ML27 is an appealing return to the brand’s earlier vintage-inspired designs, combining compact proportions with a restrained case and a more playful dial arrangement. The white, blue and yellow configuration is particularly effective. Although I would normally consider 36mm relatively small for my preferences, the lighter dial and broad 20mm strap give the watch more visual presence than its dimensions suggest.

Even on my 6.5-inch wrist, the ML27 does not appear excessively small. Its compact proportions also make it a convincing unisex design. I appreciate the slim polished case, sapphire crystal on both sides and the mechanical interest provided by the Seagull SD701. The yellow recessed seconds register adds character without overwhelming the otherwise traditional dial.
There are minor compromises, including the unsigned strap hardware and comparatively modest luminous performance, but neither significantly detracts from the overall design. For me, the ML27 demonstrates that Militado can revisit its simpler watchmaking roots while introducing enough contemporary detail to keep the result interesting.
