Pagani Design YS020 Review – An Ultra-Thin VC222 Homage With a Gradient Dial
Pagani Design has never been shy about bold homages, but the Pagani Design YS020 feels like one of the more unexpected directions from the brand. Rather than staying within the usual Rolex or Tudor lanes, this watch clearly reaches toward the VC 222 style of integrated sports watch, but does so in a very slim, very affordable quartz format.
The version reviewed here is the rubber and leather strap model, priced around $60 before tax. It brings a stainless steel case, sapphire crystal, Japanese quartz movement, 100 meters of water resistance, and a case thickness of just 7mm. The integrated bracelet version is also available for around $70 before tax and adds a running seconds hand. For a wider view of how this watch compares within the brand, you may want to revisit our other Pagani Design reviews.
Design & Case
The whole idea of the YS020 is the ultra-thin, low-profile integrated strap design. The watch measures 37mm in diameter, only 7mm thick, and 49mm lug-to-lug. That lug-to-lug length is extended by the integrated strap architecture, with a 25mm integration width where the strap meets the case. If you’re drawn to the versatility of affordable watches, our Comparison Tool makes it easy to line up similar models side by side and compare the key specifications in detail.

On the wrist, the compact diameter and extremely slim case give it a sleek profile, while the integrated design gives it a broader, more contemporary stance. This is not a tall watch, and the 7mm thickness keeps the side profile very smooth.
The case is predominantly brushed, but there is quite a lot of geometry in the design. From the side, the flank is thin and horizontally brushed, with sharp, clean case lines. The midcase is flat and crisp, while the lugs angle downward quite aggressively, giving the watch an angular, architectural feel.

There are drilled lug hoods, which add a slight retro tool-watch reference to an otherwise modern integrated design. Between the brushed flank and the top case surface, a slim polished 45-degree bevel adds a clean highlight line. The result is a mix of flat facets, brushed planes, polished edges, and a gear-like bezel, all catching light in different ways. Fans of everyday watches may find familiar strengths here, particularly in terms of layout and proportions.
Movement & Crown
Inside the YS020 is the Seiko VJ21 quartz movement. This Japanese quartz caliber has a movement height of just 2.28mm, and that is the reason Pagani Design can keep the case architecture so thin.

The movement has a quoted accuracy of around plus or minus 20 seconds per month, with an average battery life of roughly two and a half years. On this fluoro rubber strap version, Pagani Design uses a two-hand layout with no running seconds hand.
That absence of a seconds hand supports the minimal, ultra-thin character of the watch. The integrated stainless steel bracelet version differs here, as that model does include a seconds hand.

The crown is kept compact as well. It is a signed brushed crown measuring just 4.8mm across, with enough notching to make it usable without disturbing the slim side profile.
Bezel
The fixed bezel is the visual anchor of the watch. It has a circular, gear-shaped edge that gives the case a more mechanical texture, while the radial brushing across the top contrasts with the horizontal brushing of the case.

That bezel shape is a major part of the design language. It brings the strongest architectural element to the front of the watch and adds definition around the dial without adding height.
The flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating sits just a hairline above the fixed bezel. That keeps the profile clean and sharp, while still giving the dial the protection and clarity expected from a sapphire-equipped watch.
Strap
Pagani Design offers the YS020 on either an integrated stainless steel bracelet or the strap setup reviewed here. The bracelet keeps it closer to the VC 222-style integrated sports watch tribute, while this strap version pushes the watch in a slightly more casual and sporty direction.

The outer surface is fluoro rubber, with a patterned texture across the top. Purple stitching runs along the strap and ties directly into the purple gradient dial, making the strap feel specific to this version of the watch rather than generic.
The underside is genuine leather, giving the wrist a more natural wearing surface than full rubber. The strap is signed with Pagani Design branding and also carries a genuine leather stamp underneath.

There are two floating keepers, and the stainless steel buckle is signed with Pagani branding. Turning the watch over, the snap-on caseback shows the usual engraved specifications, including stainless steel, the model number, the brand name, and 100 meters of water resistance.
Crystal & Dial
The dial is where this ultra-thin Pagani really starts to show its personality. Under the flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, the printed minute chaptering runs around the periphery, with applied baton hour markers just inside it.
Each hour marker is edged in chrome and has a lume plot running through the center. The execution is simple, but the dial color and contrast make the layout look crisp.

The dial surface is vertically brushed, and on this version it sits under a strong purple-to-black gradient. Around the pinion, the color is bright magenta, almost electric in certain light. Toward the rehaut, it darkens into near black.
That darker outer edge is important because it is where the minute track and hour markers sit. The white printing and chrome edging stand out sharply against the blackened perimeter, so legibility remains strong despite the bold color.
Branding is minimal, with only the applied Pagani Design logo in chrome under 12. Above 6, there is no extra dial text. The only wording is “Japan Movement,” printed discreetly between the minute track and rehaut at 6 o’clock.

The handset follows the same minimal approach, with baton-style hour and minute hands, both carrying lume plots. In the dark, the lume glows bright green across the hands and markers. It charges quickly enough, though it is typical Pagani Design lume rather than especially long-lasting.
Summary
The Pagani Design YS020 is built around a very specific formula: an ultra-thin case, integrated strap architecture, fixed gear-shaped bezel, and a vivid purple gradient dial. At 37mm across and 7mm thick, it has the slick, low-profile character that defines the watch.

The Seiko VJ21 quartz movement is central to that thinness, with its 2.28mm movement height allowing the case to stay extremely slim. The two-hand layout on the strap version reinforces that minimal direction, while the bracelet version adds a running seconds hand.
The watch also has the practical basics in place: stainless steel construction, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, signed crown, signed buckle, genuine leather strap underside, and 100 meters of water resistance. Considering the reviewed version sits around $60 before tax, the YS020 is a distinctive take on an integrated-style homage with a strong visual identity. Within this sub $100 price range, there are a handful of compelling alternatives worth comparing.
