Seestern S382 Review – A Tangente Inspired Bauhaus Dress Watch

The Seestern S382 is not what I usually expect from a brand better known for hardcore diver watches. This is a clean, Bauhaus-style everyday dress watch, clearly paying tribute to Nomos design language, but filtered through Seestern’s own budget-focused formula.

The version reviewed here has the magenta purple dial, and that color changes the whole character of the watch. On paper, it is slim, polished, minimalist, and restrained. On the wrist, the dial gives it far more personality. Priced south of $100 before tax it remains firmly in budget territory. At this sub $100 level of spend, buyers are spoiled for choice,

    Design & Case

The S382 measures 38.7mm in diameter, 9.22mm thick, and 47.5mm lug-to-lug, with a standard 20mm lug width. Those proportions make it thin, elegant, and very wearable.

The case is fully polished, with no brushed surfaces anywhere. The flank is smooth and reflective, and the lugs extend directly from the case in that clean geometric Bauhaus style. They are thin and elegant, but they also hook downward quite aggressively, helping the watch sit closer to the wrist rather than floating flat across it.

Seestern also includes drilled lugs, which is a practical detail on such a polished dress watch. It makes strap changes easier, but visually it does not disturb the case profile. The watch keeps its minimalist structure, with the dial remaining the main focus. It’s worth placing this model within the wider landscape of similar releases, for example the vintage inspired Baltany 1921.

    Movement & Crown

Inside the S382 is the Seagull ST701 self-winding automatic movement. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3Hz, with 20 jewels and around 40 hours of power reserve.

The key visual feature of this movement is the small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock. It gives the dial a more classical layout and adds just enough mechanical interest to the otherwise clean surface.

The main limitation is that the ST701 does not hack. When the crown is pulled out to set the time, the seconds hand will not stop.

The crown is signed, push-pull, and measures 5.4mm across. It is small enough not to disturb the clean side profile, but still practical enough for winding and setting the time.

    Bezel

The case forms a thin polished frame around the dial, keeping the front of the watch broad, open, and minimalist. That polished surround works with the flat sapphire crystal and the slim case profile, giving the S382 the clean, dial-focused look that defines the design.

The flat sapphire crystal has anti-reflective coating and sits over the dial without adding unnecessary visual weight. The result is a front view that feels simple and direct, with the color, typography, and small seconds display doing most of the work.

The polished case edge also reinforces the dress-watch character. It keeps the watch clean, reflective, and restrained while allowing the magenta dial to carry the personality. If the character of this watch appeals to you, there are other models with a similar dress design ethos worth exploring.

    Strap

The Seestern S382 comes on a suede leather strap, and the texture suits the watch well. The outer surface has a soft suede finish that works naturally with the dress-watch profile and gives the watch a slightly warmer feel.

Flip it over and the underside is beige leather stamped “genuine leather.” The strap is unsigned, so there is no Seestern branding on the leather itself, but the construction is practical and well matched to the watch.

It uses quick-release spring bars, making strap changes simple and tool-free. There are also two floating keepers.

The clasp is more interesting than the strap branding. It is a milled buckle, signed with the Seestern brand name, which gives the strap setup a more complete and proprietary feel.

    Crystal & Dial

The dial is the main reason this version of the S382 feels different. Under the flat sapphire crystal, the matte magenta purple surface works with the minimalist Bauhaus layout rather than fighting it.

Around the periphery, there is printed minute chaptering that keeps the dial crisp and functional. The hour layout follows the classic Bauhaus structure, with Arabic numerals at the even hours from 2 through to 12 and long printed batons at the odd hours.

The typography is tall, clean, and deliberate, giving the watch its unmistakably Nomos-inspired character. At 6 o’clock, the recessed small seconds sub-dial adds depth to the otherwise flat minimalist surface.

The orange seconds pointer is a strong detail. It breaks up the purple dial without overpowering it, adding a small point of movement and contrast. The main hands are slim baton-style hands with central lume plots.

The lume is one of the surprises. The S382 gets bright blue lume on the central hands and around the hour markers on the chapter track. It charges easily, glows clearly, and lasts much longer than expected from this kind of dress watch.

    Summary

The Seestern S382 works because it combines a disciplined Bauhaus dress-watch structure with a dial color that gives it more energy. The polished case, flat sapphire crystal, printed typography, small seconds layout, and slim proportions all keep the watch elegant and clean.

The magenta purple dial changes the mood completely. It stops the design from feeling clinical and gives the watch a more expressive personality, especially with the orange small seconds pointer and bright blue lume.

There are clear practical details as well: sapphire crystal, Seagull ST701 automatic movement, signed crown, exhibition caseback, quick-release suede leather strap, milled signed buckle, and drilled lugs. The ST701 does not hack, but at around $80 before tax, the S382 still delivers a distinctive non-diver from a brand mostly known for dive watches. If you’ve enjoyed this piece, you may also want to explore Seestern’s broader lineup, particularly their other dive-focused releases.
