Sugess S457 Chronograph Review – A Column Wheel Chronograph With ST1907 Mechanical Depth
The Sugess S457 Chronograph is very clearly playing in the Tudor chronograph space, and there is no real need to pretend otherwise. But the reason this watch becomes interesting is not just the look. It is the mechanical package, the finishing, and the way Sugess has built a proper hand-wound column wheel chronograph around this case format.
Inside is the Seagull ST1907 swan-neck column wheel chronograph movement, paired with a full stainless steel case, screw-down chronograph pushers, a boxed domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, a power reserve display, and a bracelet constructed with screw pins rather than push pins. Usually priced around $230 before tax. In this sub $300 segment of the market, small differences in execution often matter more than raw specifications.
Design & Case
The S457 is not a small watch. It measures 40.8mm in diameter, 14mm thick, and 49.2mm lug-to-lug, with a 21mm lug width. That gives it presence on the wrist, while the bracelet taper from 21mm down to 18mm at the clasp helps control the wear slightly.

Some of that thickness is part of the construction above the case. The watch has a fixed bezel, and rising above that is a tall boxed and domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The proportions therefore feel tied to the chronograph architecture rather than just the midcase alone. The design language here will feel familiar to anyone drawn to chronograph watches.
The stainless steel case has a tall, flat flank polished to a proper mirror finish. There is no patchiness, cloudy polishing, or unevenness in the surface. It is clean, glossy, and considered. The lugs taper downward, while the lug hoods are finished with very fine radial brushing.

Between those polished flanks and brushed lug hoods sit polished 45-degree bevels. They are very thin around the midcase and widen slightly as they approach the lug tips. The case geometry is crisp without becoming aggressive, and the transitions between polished flank, brushed lugs, and bevels are well defined.
Movement & Crown
The movement is the key mechanical feature of the S457. Inside is the Seagull ST1907, part of the ST19 family, with roots in the Venus 175 architecture. The Chinese watch industry acquired the original tooling, machinery, and blueprints from the Swiss Venus movement line in the 1960s, and Seagull developed that base into the ST19 series.

The ST1907 used here is a hand-wound mechanical chronograph with a physical column wheel. The column wheel coordinates the start, stop, and reset functions of the chronograph, and that gives the pushers a distinct mechanical feel.
The top pusher starts the chronograph with a clean click. Pressing it again stops it, while the bottom pusher resets the chronograph seconds hand with a proper snap back to 12. The movement runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, has 22 jewels, and offers around 45 hours of power reserve on a full wind.

Because this is a hand-wound watch, the power reserve gauge near 5 o’clock is part of the actual experience of using it. As the signed crown is wound from empty, the gauge climbs toward full. The crown itself measures 7.3mm, is push-pull, and carries the Sugess “S” engraved on the tip. It sits between the two screw-down chronograph pushers. We’ve covered several Sugess watches before, and this one continues the brand’s established design language.
Bezel
Above the polished case flank is the fixed bezel. The outer edge is polished, while the top surface is matte black with a white scale printed around it.
The black bezel frames the light blue dial and gives the watch its motorsport chronograph identity. It also creates a clear visual break between the polished case body and the pronounced boxed sapphire crystal above.

The bezel is part of the overall case architecture rather than a moving timing component. Its polished outer edge, matte black top surface, and printed white scale fit into the same controlled finishing language as the rest of the watch.
Bracelet
The S457 comes on a three-link stainless steel bracelet with brushing across the main outer surfaces and polished outer flanks. That mix of finishing gives the bracelet a practical character through the brushing, with a bit of light play from the polished sides.

In hand, the bracelet finishing feels clean. There are no sharp edges or rough transitions, and the bracelet has a smooth, almost buttery feel when handled. Construction is handled with screw pins rather than push pins, although the screw heads are tiny and require a very small, high-quality flathead screwdriver for sizing.
The bracelet tolerances are well above average, although not perfect. If the bracelet is stretched or flexed, small gaps between the links can still be seen. There is no annoying rattle, and the overall construction feels solid.

Link fluidity and articulation are excellent. The clasp is compact and signed, with three micro-adjustment positions, a clean double-push release, and a milled folding wing inside. Crystal & Dial
The S457 has a pronounced boxed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. At sharper angles, purple and green anti-reflective sheen can be seen flashing across the surface. Even with the tall boxed profile, the crystal does not introduce meaningful edge distortion, so legibility remains strong from less direct viewing angles.

Below the crystal is the sky blue dial. Just under the rehaut, the minute and seconds chaptering runs around the edge of the dial. The hour markers are applied and chrome-edged, with a triangle at 12, an elongated baton at 6, and circular plots elsewhere.
Each marker is filled with lume. The main dial surface is mostly matte, helping the sky blue tone stay clean. The two sub-dials at 3 and 9 bring contrast through a black sunburst finish and white tracks, adding depth to the dial beyond the color contrast alone.

The main hands are white and lumed, and the sub-dial hands are also lumed. The central chronograph seconds hand has a red arrow tip, although it is unlumed. The lume charges easily, glows bright, and lasts well into the night across the hands, markers, and sub-dial hands.
The S457 is also available in several dial variants. This version is pastel blue, with other options including flamingo pink, lime yellowish green, black, and white. If the character of this chronograph appeals to you, there are other models with a similar design ethos worth exploring, such as the Sugess S465.
Summary
The Sugess S457 Chronograph is clearly a homage, but the substance of the watch is in the mechanical package and execution. The Seagull ST1907 hand-wound column wheel chronograph movement gives it a proper mechanical core, with a physical column wheel, 22 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, and around 45 hours of power reserve.
The case finishing is controlled throughout. The polished case flanks, fine radial brushing on the lug hoods, polished 45-degree bevels, fixed black bezel, and integrated bracelet finishing all feel considered rather than thrown together. The watch has presence at 40.8mm wide, 14mm thick, and 49.2mm lug-to-lug, but the bracelet taper down to 18mm at the clasp helps the overall wear.

The sky blue dial, black sunburst sub-dials, boxed sapphire crystal, screw-down pushers, and power reserve display give the S457 a strong mechanical chronograph character. It is the movement, the finishing, and the dial execution that make this watch interesting beyond the familiar design language.
