Macarlon 1711 Review – A Budget Everyday Watch With Strong Specs and Awkward Dial Text

The Macarlon 1711 is a budget everyday watch that tries to blend sporty proportions with dressier detailing. It brings a full stainless steel build, sapphire main crystal, mineral Cyclops, screw-in crown, screw-down exhibition caseback, automatic movement, and a five-link bracelet, all while sitting in the ultra-budget segment. If you’re budgeting around $70, there are a few noteworthy options we’ve already covered. To see how other budget watches are currently priced, take a look at our dedicated Best Deals page.

As with other Macarlon models, the movement needs clarification. The listing may refer to NH35, but this is not a genuine Seiko NH35. It is a Chinese clone, and that affects how I view the watch’s long-term refinement and dependability.

    Design & Case

The Macarlon 1711 is clearly working within a classic everyday watch design language. It has the fluted bezel, polished surfaces, five-link bracelet, and date Cyclops that immediately place it in familiar sporty-dress territory.

The case measures 40mm in diameter, 12mm thick without the Cyclops, and 13.5mm with it. The lug-to-lug length is 53mm because of the protruding male end links, while the lug width is a standard 20mm. The bracelet tapers down to 16mm at the clasp, which helps give the watch a more elegant profile on the wrist.

The case finishing gives me more mixed feelings. The fully polished case flank fits the design inspiration, and the tall polished fluted bezel also works visually because it is one of the defining features of this style of watch.

The lug hoods are polished as well, and that is where the watch becomes a little too reflective. With the bracelet mostly brushed outside its polished central links, brushed lug hoods would have made the transition feel more natural and cohesive. For those exploring the wider everyday watches space, there are several similarly positioned models worth considering.

    Movement & Crown

The movement is the point that needs the most honesty. The listing often mentions NH35, but at this very low price there is no magic on AliExpress. This is not a genuine Japanese Seiko NH35 movement.

Instead, the watch uses a Chinese clone of the NH35. Dimensionally, these movements are made to follow the NH35 format, but they do not offer the same refinement, serviceability, or long-term dependability as the Japanese Seiko version.

That does not make the watch unusable. It is still an automatic movement, and for a very inexpensive everyday watch, that may be enough for some buyers. But it does change the ownership expectations.

This is not a watch I would approach in the same way as something powered by a known original Seiko NH35. It is more of a low-cost automatic beater than a long-term mechanical purchase.

The crown is unsigned, screws in, and measures 6.8mm across. It has enough size and surface area to grip and operate comfortably.

    Bezel

The fluted bezel is one of the central design features of the Macarlon 1711. It is tall, fully polished, and clearly intended to give the watch a more refined everyday profile.

Visually, the bezel works. It catches plenty of light and gives the front of the watch some presence. Combined with the polished case flank and the five-link bracelet, it moves the design away from pure sport watch territory and into something more versatile.

The issue is not really the bezel on its own. The issue is how much polish surrounds it. The polished flank fits the design language, and the polished bezel makes sense, but the polished lug hoods add another reflective surface that slightly softens the overall case definition.

The flank itself has a rounded, almost convex profile, which adds some softness to the side. Because the upper surfaces are also polished, the transitions into the lug hoods look a little blurred by reflection.

The lines are there, but the shine makes them feel less crisp than they might have been with brushed upper surfaces.

    Bracelet

The bracelet uses push-pin construction, so there are no screw links here. Visually, though, the profile is still quite elegant and fits the overall character of the watch.

The links are relatively short and nicely rounded. The layout follows a classic five-link style, with wider brushed outer links and three polished links running through the center. That gives the bracelet the right mix of sportiness and dressier shine.

The tolerances are not the strongest part of the bracelet. Visible gaps are already present between the links before the bracelet is stretched, and once it is flexed, those gaps open further.

Structurally, this is not the tightest bracelet, but the looseness does bring one benefit. Link fluidity and articulation are very good, so the bracelet wraps around the wrist easily.

What I do like is the finishing on the bracelet edges. The case transitions feel a little soft, but on the bracelet, the edge work looks cleaner and more defined.

The clasp is a step up. It is a milled secure unit, and once opened, it also reveals a milled folding wing inside.

    Crystal & Dial

The Macarlon 1711 uses a sapphire main crystal, with a mineral Cyclops over the date window. The Cyclops does not fill the magnifier perfectly, but it does a decent job. The date is clearly enlarged, and the magnification is better than some weaker budget Cyclops setups.

The dial version here is sunburst black, although in person it sits closer to a very dark charcoal grey. Below the sapphire crystal, the eye is guided inward by a sloping brushed steel rehaut.

That rehaut leads into an outer minute track with Arabic numerals at every five-minute point, from 5 through to 60. Inside that track, the applied hour markers are elongated baton indices edged in chrome, with lume plots running through the centers.

At 12, there is a double baton for orientation. The hands are also baton-style, while the seconds hand is a simple chrome pointer.

Under 12, the Macarlon logo and brand name are printed in white. Above 6, the dial carries chronometer-style “officially certified” text, and this is where the dial loses some credibility. Without actual certification behind those words, the text feels unnecessary and undermines an otherwise solid layout.

In the dark, the lume is actually decent. Green lume appears across the applied indices and the hour and minute hands.

    Summary

The Macarlon 1711 has a good base. The full stainless steel construction, sapphire main crystal, screw-in crown, screw-down exhibition caseback, milled clasp, mineral Cyclops, and automatic movement all make it feel like a strong specification for an ultra-budget everyday watch.

The design also works in broad terms. The fluted bezel, five-link bracelet, dark charcoal sunburst dial, chrome-edged markers, and polished surfaces give it a versatile sporty-dress character.

The weaknesses are clear. The NH35-style movement is a Chinese clone, not a genuine Seiko NH35, and that makes long-term dependability harder to judge. The polished lug hoods also make the case feel more reflective than necessary.

The dial text above 6 is the most frustrating visual issue. Without that chronometer-style claim, this would feel cleaner and more credible. As it stands, the 1711 is still interesting, but it comes with caveats. Those interested in what else Macarlon has been doing recently may want to explore some of their other releases.
