Pagani Design PD-YS038 Review – A Unique Quartz Homage Watch With Awesome Lume

The Pagani Design PD-YS038 is a new 2026 release that leaves me slightly conflicted. On one hand, it brings a full stainless steel case, sapphire crystal, screw-link bracelet, signed milled clasp, milled folding wing, strong lume, and a genuinely interesting textured dial. On paper, there is plenty here to like. Viewed on its own, the watch performs well, though comparisons naturally add context, check out other Pagani Design reviews.

On the other hand, this is still a simple one-tick-per-second quartz watch launching at around $150. That makes the value equation harder to read, especially when Pagani Design is moving this piece into a more competitive tier. At this level of the market, buyers have no shortage of alternatives competing for attention. Design & Case

The Pagani Design PD-YS038 is a brand new Pagani Design watch for 2026, released at the back end of July 2026. Straight away, expectations need to be managed because this is a quartz watch, not an automatic.

The case measures 41.5mm in diameter, 10.7mm thick, and 46.5mm lug-to-lug. That lug-to-lug length is very manageable, helped by the inverted end links. The lug width is a standard 20mm, while the bracelet tapers down to 16mm at the clasp.

The design itself is more interesting than the movement specification might suggest. Pagani has taken classic sporty watch proportions and given them a sharper, more angular case architecture.

The flanks have squeezed side ears, not as wide or dramatic as the more iconic designs this style recalls, but enough to give the case a distinct outline. The case sides are horizontally brushed, with polished bevels leading toward the brushed lug hoods.

The architecture is crisp. There are no hard edges to the touch, but the angular planes, brushing, and polished transitions do a lot of visual work. This release carries a comparable visual identity to other everyday watches emphasizing clean utility and understated finishing.

    Movement & Crown

The movement is where the PD-YS038 becomes harder to judge. The listing mentions Swiss quartz, but I have not opened the caseback to confirm the exact caliber inside.

Based on the setup, it is likely one of the basic Ronda quartz movements, potentially something from the 5 series or 7 series family. But because the movement has not been confirmed directly, I would not state the exact caliber as fact.

Either way, this is a simple one-tick-per-second quartz movement. That is not automatically a problem, but it does make the launch pricing feel more ambitious, especially with so many strong automatic options sitting in a similar general space.

The crown is signed, push-pull, and measures 6.4mm across. It is chunky enough and easy to grip, but the push-pull construction is one of the practical limitations here.

The watch claims 100 meters of water resistance, but because this is not a screw-down crown setup, I would personally treat it more as splashproof in real-world use rather than something I would swim with.

    Bezel

The PD-YS038 uses a fixed bezel, and like the rest of the case, it leans into sharp finishing and light play rather than moving parts or timing functionality.

The side of the bezel is polished, while the top surface is radially brushed. That contrast works nicely with the horizontally brushed case sides and polished bevels, giving the watch more visual structure from different angles.

The bezel supports the sapphire crystal above it. The crystal has a slight dome, with a bevelled edge rising from the bezel, and that profile adds a little more depth to the front of the watch.

This is not a loud bezel, but it is important to the overall shape. It frames the dial cleanly, keeps the watch looking sporty, and helps the case architecture feel more deliberate.

The brushed top surface also stops the watch from becoming too reflective. Considering the case already uses polished bevels and angular transitions, that restraint helps the design feel sharper rather than simply shiny.

    Bracelet

The bracelet is one of the stronger parts of the PD-YS038, although it also has to be judged against the watch’s more ambitious positioning. This is not the cheapest Pagani Design release, so the bracelet needs to feel more serious.

It does bring some proper hardware. The bracelet is stainless steel and uses screw-link construction, which is good to see from Pagani Design. In normal handling, it feels solid enough, with good link fluidity and excellent articulation around the wrist.

The tolerances are more than decent, but not perfect. When the bracelet is stretched and flexed, gaps between the links become more obvious. So while it does not feel bad, it is not a super tight bracelet either.

The outer faces of the bracelet are brushed rather than polished. That keeps the bracelet looking more utilitarian and should make it more forgiving in everyday wear.

The clasp is properly done. It is signed, milled, and uses a double-pusher release. It also has three micro-adjustment positions, and inside there is a milled folding wing.

    Crystal & Dial

The dial is where the PD-YS038 feels most exciting. Under the bevelled, slightly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, this blue version uses a matte textured surface with a very fine grain.

The colour starts as a lighter sky blue around the pinion and gradually becomes richer and more saturated toward the edge of the dial. It gives the watch a more modern and dimensional look than a flat printed dial would have done.

There are several dial variants available, including gradient grey with a touch of pink, charcoal grey and olive green, and the blue version reviewed here.

Around the periphery, printed minute chaptering includes five-minute numerals built into the track. The applied hour markers avoid the usual chrome-edged look and instead use a more modern, solid architectural style.

At the cardinal points, the shapes are stronger: a triangle at 12 and baton markers at 3, 6, and 9. The remaining markers are framed rectangular shapes with open space through the centers, giving the dial more volume.

The hands are edged in black, which works well against the blue dial. Branding is minimal, with the Pagani Design logo under 12 and 100 meters of water resistance text above 6.

The lume is genuinely good. It glows bright green, charges easily, looks evenly applied, and lasts for a very long time.

    Summary

The Pagani Design PD-YS038 is one of those watches I find difficult to place. The design is sharp, the case architecture is crisp, the dial is genuinely interesting, and the lume is much better than I usually expect from Pagani Design.

The bracelet is also stronger than the brand’s cheaper efforts, with screw links, brushed outer faces, good articulation, a signed milled clasp, three micro-adjustment positions, and a milled folding wing.

Pagani Design PD-YS038 Watch Review - Timed Reviews

The hesitation comes from the movement and price positioning. This is still a simple one-tick-per-second quartz watch, and the exact caliber has not been confirmed. At launch, around $150, that makes the value argument less straightforward.

Still, the PD-YS038 has real strengths. If the price settles lower over time, the combination of case finishing, dial execution, sapphire crystal, bracelet hardware, and excellent lume could make it far easier to recommend.
