Seagull Oasis Review – Bauhaus Simplicity With Sapphire and a Distinctive Teal Dial

The Seagull Oasis is a new addition to the Chinese watchmaker’s 2026 collection, bringing a more expressive interpretation of traditional Bauhaus design. Its minimalist two-hand layout, small seconds register and clean hour markers follow familiar principles, but the richly textured teal dial introduces considerably more character than the restrained architecture might suggest.

Coming from Seagull, a manufacturer with over 70 years of watchmaking history, the Oasis features an in-house ST17 automatic movement, sapphire crystal and stainless steel construction. Having received this watch directly from Seagull for review, I was particularly interested in how its minimalist styling translates into an everyday watch rather than a conventional dress piece. This watch is priced just north of $200. For more Seagull watches and current AliExpress prices, take a look at our Seagull Deals page.

    Design & Case

The Seagull Oasis measures 40.2mm in diameter, 10.1mm thick and 47mm lug-to-lug. These are relatively restrained proportions, particularly considering the automatic movement and exhibition caseback. The slim construction gives the watch an elegant profile without making the case feel overly delicate.

The stainless steel case combines horizontally brushed flanks with polished lug hoods and a polished fixed bezel. Viewed from above, the reflective surfaces create the impression of a traditional dress watch. From the side, however, the brushing introduces a more utilitarian character.

The lugs turn noticeably downward, recalling older dress watch designs, although their shape remains comparatively lean and architectural. Smooth bevel transitions connect the case flanks to the polished upper surfaces, adding definition without excessive decoration.

Beneath the case, the lip of the screw-down exhibition caseback introduces another subtle layer. Its mineral crystal window reveals the automatic movement inside.

For me, this combination of slim proportions, contrasting finishes and practical construction makes the Oasis more of an elegant everyday watch than a purely formal dress piece. The overall execution places this firmly within the contemporary everyday watch segment.

    Movement & Crown

Powering the Oasis is Seagull’s in-house ST17 self-winding automatic movement. It features 17 jewels, operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3Hz, and provides approximately 40 hours of power reserve.

The movement follows a relatively straightforward arrangement, driving the central hour and minute hands alongside a subsidiary seconds display at 6 o’clock. This configuration suits the minimalist character of the watch, keeping the main dial uncluttered while retaining the visual movement of a mechanical seconds indicator.

On the right-hand side sits a signed push-pull crown measuring 5.8mm across. Its proportions are comparatively modest, consistent with the restrained case architecture.

The screw-down exhibition caseback allows the movement to be viewed through a mineral crystal window rather than sapphire. Combined with the push-pull crown, the watch carries 50 metres of water resistance.

I would regard this as adequate for incidental splashes rather than swimming. The Oasis is clearly intended for everyday wear, with its mechanical construction supporting the design rather than defining it.

    Bezel

The Oasis uses a polished fixed bezel that provides a clean transition between the horizontally brushed case flanks and the flat sapphire crystal.

Although relatively tall when viewed from the side, the bezel does not dominate the watch’s proportions. Its polished upper surface contributes to the more formal appearance visible from directly above, while the brushed case beneath introduces a contrasting, less decorative finish.

The sapphire crystal sits almost flush with the bezel, rising only fractionally above its upper edge. This arrangement gives the front of the watch a particularly clean profile, avoiding the pronounced crystal height associated with more traditional vintage-inspired designs.

There is no rotating mechanism or additional timing function, and I think that simplicity works well here. The bezel acts as a polished frame around the dial, allowing the contrasting colours and textures beneath the crystal to remain the visual focus.

Its execution is understated, which is appropriate for a watch built around Bauhaus-inspired restraint.

    Strap

The Seagull Oasis comes fitted with a black leather strap featuring a distinctive pebble-textured outer surface. The leather feels soft and supple in hand, with enough substance to complement the stainless steel case without becoming unnecessarily thick or stiff.

Stitching runs neatly along both outer edges, reinforcing the strap’s restrained appearance. The texture introduces some additional detail, although it remains subtle enough not to compete with the more expressive dial.

On the underside, one section carries a genuine leather stamp, while the other features Seagull branding. These are small finishing details, but they contribute to a more considered overall presentation.

Two floating keepers secure the excess strap, while the buckle is an ornate milled stainless steel construction with the Seagull logo engraved across its upper surface.

The only minor disappointment is the absence of quick-release spring bars. Strap changes therefore require conventional tools, although this is hardly a significant limitation.

Overall, the leather and hardware feel appropriately matched to the watch’s refined everyday character.

    Crystal & Dial

A flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating sits almost flush with the polished bezel. Beneath it, a relatively shallow rehaut leads towards the richly saturated teal dial, creating enough depth without exaggerating the watch’s slim construction.

The dial is particularly interesting because it avoids both sunburst finishing and a conventional flat surface. Instead, it uses a coarse, granular texture across a single-tone blue-green background. As light moves across the surface, tiny irregularities produce micro-shadows, creating subtle movement without strong directional reflections.

White printed minute markings frame the dial, while applied Arabic numerals and elongated baton indices feature polished chrome surrounds with white luminous centres. Their contrast against the darker background makes the time immediately readable.

Seagull branding remains restrained beneath 12 o’clock, with Automatic printed below.

At 6 o’clock, a recessed ivory-white small seconds register contrasts with the textured dial. Its smooth surface and small yellow seconds hand introduce a carefully controlled splash of colour.

Bright green lume illuminates the main hands and hour markers, although the small seconds hand is not luminous. For additional context around the brand’s direction, it’s worth comparing this against other Seagull pieces.

    Summary

The Seagull Oasis is an appealing interpretation of minimalist watch design, largely because it introduces personality without abandoning the restraint associated with Bauhaus styling.

The textured teal dial is undoubtedly its strongest visual feature. Its saturated colour, granular finish and contrasting ivory-white seconds register create a distinctive appearance, while the polished indices and luminous hands preserve everyday legibility.

I also appreciate the case construction. The contrast between polished upper surfaces and horizontally brushed flanks gives the watch two slightly different characters depending on the viewing angle, supporting its position somewhere between a dress watch and an everyday automatic.

There are a few minor compromises. The leather strap lacks quick-release spring bars, the small seconds hand is not luminous, and the 50-metre water resistance is relatively modest.

Nevertheless, the Oasis brings together Seagull’s in-house mechanical movement, considered finishing and a carefully balanced dial design. For me, it is the combination of visual simplicity and subtle detailing that makes this watch interesting.
