Addiesdive AD2072 Review – A Slim Diver with a Bi-Directional Bezel and Vintage Charm
There are plenty of moments when I find myself looking for something affordable, but still engaging enough to feel like a proper watch on the wrist. The Addiesdive AD2072 falls directly into that space. At around $60 before tax, it promises more than you would typically expect at this level, both in terms of specification and overall execution. At roughly this level of spend, buyers are spoiled for choice, with several strong competitors available.
What immediately stands out is how much is packed into this watch. A screw-in crown, a screw-down case back, and a ceramic bezel insert all at this price point already set expectations. But what matters more is how these elements come together in practice, and whether the AD2072 delivers beyond its spec sheet.
Design & Case
On the wrist, the AD2072 feels notably restrained for a diver-style watch. At 38.8 mm in diameter and 11.7 mm thick, it avoids the bulk that often defines this category. Much of that thickness comes from the boxed and domed K1 mineral crystal, which adds height without making the watch feel top-heavy.
The lug-to-lug length measures 51.8 mm, largely due to protruding male end links. On paper, that sounds extended, but the sharply downturned lugs help bring the watch inward, allowing it to sit more compactly. On my 6.5-inch wrist, there is no overhang, and the case feels controlled.
The case itself is simple but well executed. The flanks are polished and slightly convex, softening the overall profile. Beneath them, the fluted lip of the screw-down case back is visible, while above, the bezel introduces a layered structure. Transitions into the lugs are handled with smooth bevels, maintaining both comfort and clean visual lines. Movement & Crown
Inside the AD2072 sits the Ronda 515 quartz movement. It is a three-hand Swiss caliber known for its reliability and efficiency, with a battery life of up to 45 months, or nearly four years. This is a straightforward, no-nonsense movement, focused on accuracy and long-term usability rather than complexity. It aligns well with the watch’s purpose as an everyday piece.
The crown is screw-in, contributing to the watch’s overall robustness. Combined with the screw-down case back, it supports the structural integrity of the case and reinforces its practical, tool-oriented design.
Bezel
The bezel is one of the more engaging aspects of the AD2072. It features a high-gloss black ceramic insert with a white 60-minute scale printed on top, adding immediate visual contrast.
In use, the action is controlled and consistent. The resistance remains even whether rotating clockwise or counterclockwise, and the overall feel leans slightly heavier. Rather than producing a loud ratcheting sound, the feedback is primarily tactile, with each detent felt more than heard.
Once aligned, the bezel holds its position firmly. There is no noticeable backlash or lateral play, and it cannot settle between clicks. The brushed and notched edge provides grip, and the slight overhang above the case flank makes operation easier, even if the grooves could be deeper.
Bracelet
The AD2072 is fitted with a three-link stainless steel bracelet that tapers from 20 mm at the lugs to 18 mm at the clasp. This subtle taper helps maintain balance and keeps the watch from feeling overly top-heavy.
Construction is simple, using push pins rather than screws. At this price point, that is expected. Where the bracelet shows its budget origins is in the tolerances. When flexed, visible gaps appear between the links, giving it a slightly looser feel.
That said, articulation is good. The bracelet drapes naturally around the wrist, and the relatively thin links contribute to overall comfort. The clasp is a signed unit with a double push-button release, and inside, a pressed folding wing completes the setup. It is functional and secure, even if not particularly refined. If you’re currently shopping within the diver watch category, there are several comparable models worth considering.
Crystal & Dial
The AD2072 uses a boxed and domed K1 mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating. As light moves across the surface, subtle green and purple reflections appear, adding a layer of visual interest without compromising clarity.
Beneath the crystal, the dial is matte black, providing strong contrast against the warm beige-yellow indices. Around the outer edge, a printed minute track frames the layout cleanly.
The hour markers follow a classic diver format, with a triangle at 12, elongated batons at 6 and 9, a partial baton at 3 next to the date window, and circular plots elsewhere. All markers are printed and filled with lume, contributing to a slightly vintage aesthetic.
The hands match this tone, filled with the same lume and edged in gold-colored chrome for contrast. The seconds hand carries a gold-tone pointer with a loomed lollipop tip, making it easy to confirm operation in low light.
When darkness sets in, the watch performs strongly. The lume charges quickly and remains visible for an extended period, maintaining clarity across the dial.
Summary
The Addiesdive AD2072 is a compelling example of what can be achieved at a budget level when priorities are clearly defined. It offers a slim, wearable case, a reliable quartz movement, and a bezel that feels more refined than its price suggests.
There are compromises, particularly in the bracelet tolerances, but they do not undermine the overall experience. The watch feels cohesive, practical, and well considered.
