Specht & Söhne SP0033 Review – A 200m Diver With a Sapphire Bezel
The Specht & Söhne SP0033 is a stainless steel automatic diver with a component list that immediately feels more ambitious than many watches from the brand. It brings a Miyota 8215 movement, sapphire crystal, sapphire-covered bezel, full luminous bezel markings, a seven-link bracelet with screw pins, and 200 meters of water resistance.
The version I have here uses the lavender purple gradient sunburst dial with a matching purple bezel. It is not the cheapest Specht & Söhne model, but the case refinement, bezel action, bracelet construction, and lume setup make it one of the more interesting.
Design & Case
The Specht & Söhne SP0033 measures 38.8mm in diameter, 12.3mm thick, and just 45.8mm lug-to-lug, helped by the inverted end links. The lug width is 20mm, and the bracelet tapers down to 16mm at the clasp.
That compact lug-to-lug measurement matters on the wrist. The watch keeps proper diver presence, but the proportions remain approachable and wrist-friendly, especially with the bracelet dropping away cleanly from the case.
The side profile is tall and horizontally brushed, with a rounded midcase and lugs that flow outward from the case. As the lugs transition into the lug hoods, a polished 45-degree bevel widens toward the lug tips, adding refinement and light play to the otherwise brushed, utilitarian profile.
I also like the visual transition from case to bracelet. The brushing direction on the lug hoods closely matches the brushing on the end links, helping the bracelet feel properly integrated into the watch head. This release makes more sense when viewed alongside the rest of Specht & Söhne’s current lineup.
Movement & Crown
Inside the Specht & Söhne SP0033 is the Miyota 8215 automatic movement. It is a Japanese self-winding workhorse with 21 jewels, around 42 hours of power reserve, and a beat rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3Hz.
The movement gives the watch a familiar and serviceable automatic base. The Miyota 8215 is widely understood, parts availability is realistic, and servicing is more manageable than with many obscure budget movements.
The crown is signed, screws in, and has a slightly pumpkin-shaped profile. At its widest point, it measures 5.6mm across. It remains fairly minimal in appearance, but it is tall enough and notched enough to be easy to use. Unscrewing the crown, winding the movement, and setting the time all feel straightforward. Paired with the screw-down caseback, the watch carries 200 meters of water resistance.
Bezel
The bezel is one of the standout parts of the Specht & Söhne SP0033. Visually, it has a convex, three-dimensional profile because the top is covered by sapphire crystal. Beneath that sapphire layer sits the white 60-minute scale, and the bezel markings are luminous.
The outer edge has very notchy brushed threading, and there is a slight overhang above the case flank. That gives the fingers plenty of purchase when rotating the bezel.
The action is genuinely impressive. Resistance is even throughout the full rotation cycle, and the weight feels heavy but not forced. It is deliberate, controlled, and well tensioned.
The sound is properly ratchety, with distinct mechanical clicks and good spring load as the bezel indexes forward into the next detent. You cannot land between clicks, there is no backplay, and there is hardly any lateral tolerance shift at the detent. It feels secure, positive, and well indexed. This release shares many characteristics commonly associated with modern diver watches.
Bracelet
The bracelet is a true seven-link construction rather than a single-link bracelet styled to look more complex. The outer links are brushed, while the five central rice-bead-style links are polished, giving the watch a more luxurious effect.
It tapers from 20mm at the lugs to 16mm at the clasp. Combined with the polished rice-bead-style center links, that taper adds elegance and keeps the watch from feeling too sporty or assertive.
The outer links have beveled edges, which softens the bracelet and helps it feel more fluid on the wrist. The links are also short, so link articulation and fluidity are excellent.
Tolerances are more mediocre. When the bracelet is stretched or flexed, visible gaps appear between the links. The construction, however, is stronger than many budget bracelets because it uses screw pins.
The clasp is a signed milled unit with a double-pusher release, five micro-adjustment positions, and a milled folding wing inside. The screw-down caseback carries the brand name and specifications.
Crystal & Dial
The boxy, slightly domed sapphire crystal has anti-reflective coating, visible through a purple sheen when light catches it at an angle. It is a single dome crystal, so sharper viewing angles create some light distortion, but that also adds depth over the dial.
The brushed rehaut guides the eye down to the gradient purple sunburst dial. Around the pinions, the color has a magenta purple glow, then darkens toward the edge until it becomes almost black at the periphery.
That transition creates strong contrast for the white minute chaptering and applied indices. The markers are chrome-edged, with lume plots in the center. At 12, there is a diamond-shaped marker, elongated batons at 3, 6, and 9, and circular plots for the remaining hours.
The hands are baton-style, joined by a lollipop seconds pointer with a red tip. In darkness, the watch glows bright green across the indices, hands, lollipop seconds pointer, and bezel markings. The lume is applied in unison and lasts well.
Summary
The Specht & Söhne SP0033 feels like a clear step up for the brand. It combines a compact 38.8mm case, 45.8mm lug-to-lug, 200 meters of water resistance, sapphire crystal, sapphire-covered bezel, Miyota 8215 automatic movement, and a proper seven-link bracelet with screw pins.
The purple gradient dial gives the watch its personality. The magenta center, near-black edge, matching purple bezel, diamond marker at 12, red-tipped seconds hand, and bright green lume create a colorful but still balanced diver layout.
The bezel action is the highlight. It is heavy, even, well indexed, secure at the detent, free of backplay, and fully lumed under sapphire. The bracelet tolerances are not perfect, but the construction, taper, screw pins, milled clasp, and overall integration keep the package feeling more refined than expected. At this sub $200 level of the market, buyers have no shortage of alternatives competing for attention.
