Specht & Söhne SP0006 Review – An Ultra Budget Chronograph

The Specht & Söhne SP0006 is a very affordable Aquanaut-style chronograph that tries to capture the broad design language of a watch sitting in a completely different price universe. At around $90, it brings a stainless steel case, screw-down crown, screw-down caseback, chronograph quartz movement, TPU rubber strap, hidden double-folding clasp, and a surprisingly polished overall look.

This is clearly a budget watch, and the shortcuts are present. The crystal is mineral glass, the movement is standard quartz rather than mecha-quartz, and the strap needs to be cut to size. Design & Case

The SP0006 measures 41mm in diameter, 10.9mm thick, and 48.6mm lug-to-lug, with a 21mm lug width. On the strap, the watch weighs 90g, so it has some presence without feeling overly heavy.

There are four color options available, including the iconic orange TPU rubber strap version that matches the orange dial highlights. The version here is the more subtle navy blue, which gives the watch a calmer and more wearable character.

The case lies snugly against the wrist thanks to the downward-sloping lugs. Looking at the profile, the flat flanks round the case and carry through from one lug to the next, creating a simple but elegant shape.

The finishing is better than the price suggests. The flanks are finely brushed, which reduces reflections and helps disguise wear. The lug hoods are polished, while the bevels between the lugs and flanks are smoothed to mark the layered case construction. There are a handful of chronograph watches that capture a comparable balance between modern finishing and classic inspiration.

Movement & Crown

Inside the SP0006 is a Miyota quartz chronograph movement. It is a dependable setup and gives the watch a fully functioning chronograph sub-dial, but it does require the usual battery replacement every couple of years.

The movement is not mecha-quartz. That means the chronograph action does not have the same sweeping seconds feel seen on some budget chronographs using hybrid movements. This is a standard quartz approach, and it keeps the watch straightforward and affordable.

On the right-hand side, the watch has an unsigned screw-down crown with two flat pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock. The crown side is one of the more attractive areas of the case because the alternating brushed and polished surfaces give it more visual interest.

The crown tip is polished, while the flanks of the elongated pushers are brushed. Underneath, the screw-down caseback highlights the stainless steel construction and 50 meters of water resistance.

Bezel

The SP0006 uses a fixed bezel with an octagonal shape, though the corners are subtle and softly handled. They are not harsh or overly angular, and they become more apparent through light play and closer inspection.

The top of the fixed bezel is brushed in line with the case flanks, reinforcing the watch’s practical anti-fingerprint surface treatment. Around the bezel, a polished chamfer adds a brighter highlight and gives the front of the case more definition.

That finishing contrast helps the watch feel more expensive than it is. From above, the brushed bezel keeps the watch relatively restrained, while the polished edges catch just enough light to emphasize the case shape.

The mineral crystal sits almost flat, just a slight touch above the bezel. It keeps the front profile clean, although mineral glass is still one of the obvious cost-saving choices on the watch. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Specht & Söhne lean into this style of design and finishing.

Strap

The strap is one of the most interesting and divisive parts of the SP0006. It is a TPU rubber strap with a sporty patterned outer face, and it clearly follows the design language that inspired the watch.

The strap is soft and intricately styled, and the clasp is much better than I expected at this price. It is polished, signed with the brand logo and name, and uses a double-folding mechanism with two independent catches and two push buttons.

The folding wings are also signed and specifically styled for Specht & Söhne. That detail gives the strap and clasp setup a more complete feel than a generic rubber strap with a basic buckle would have done.

The more limiting part is the sizing system. The clasp attaches with two spring bars at the strap ends, which means the strap has to be trimmed to fit the wearer’s wrist. Once it is cut, that size is effectively set.

That creates a more custom fit, but it also leaves little room for mistakes or later adjustment.

Crystal & Dial

The SP0006 uses a flat slab of mineral glass sitting just above the bezel. Beneath it, the matte blue dial has recessed lines running vertically and horizontally, resembling latitude and longitude lines across the surface.

That pattern gives the dial more character than a plain matte finish. It also reinforces the sporty visual connection between the dial and TPU strap.

Around the periphery, the minute track is printed just beneath the brushed rehaut. The hour numerals are applied, finished in white, and contrast clearly against the dark blue dial.

At 3 o’clock, there is a date window with a neat cutout that fits naturally into the dial layout. At 6, there is the chronograph sub-dial, with numerals and markers printed in white.

The minute and hour hands are thick white batons with plenty of lume applied. The central seconds hand and chronograph hand are bright orange, adding the main color contrast.

The lume is not one of the watch’s strongest areas. Brightness and longevity are limited, though the hour and minute hands remain more prominent than the printed elements.

Summary

The Specht & Söhne SP0006 is a strong-looking sub-$100 chronograph with several premium-style touches. The stainless steel case, brushed and polished finishing, screw-down crown, screw-down caseback, signed hidden clasp, and patterned strap all help the watch feel more considered than the price suggests.

The main compromises are clear. The crystal is mineral glass, the movement is standard Miyota quartz rather than mecha-quartz, the lume is limited, and the strap must be cut to size.

Even with those points, the SP0006 has charm. At around $45, it looks fresh, sporty, and more expensive than it really is, while still offering everyday quartz practicality and a fully functioning chronograph layout. For similar money, under $100, there are a number of compelling watches that approach the category differently.
