The Poedagar 853 is a $16 watch before tax, and that fact has to sit at the front of the review. This is a very inexpensive quartz watch trying to capture the look of a much more expensive integrated sports-watch design, with the broad case stance, side ears, octagonal fixed bezel, and integrated bracelet layout doing most of the visual work. At this price, the shortcuts are not hidden, and they should not be ignored. The case is zinc alloy, the crystal is mineral, and the bracelet is basic pressed steel. The Poedagar 853 is clearly built around a Nautilus-style integrated sports-watch formula. The case has that wide, flat stance across the wrist, with protruding side ears extending from the midcase and an octagonal fixed bezel framing the dial.

The headline case width is 44.5mm, but that includes the side ears. The bezel itself measures closer to 41.7mm, which is a more realistic reading of the visual footprint. Thickness is 10.1mm, so the watch remains fairly slim.

The lug-to-lug length is 53.8mm, extended by the integrated bracelet setup and protruding male end links. At the integration point, the bracelet is 26mm wide, giving the watch its broad sports-watch stance before tapering down to 18mm at the clasp.

The case is zinc alloy, so expectations need to stay realistic. Even so, the architecture does carry the design. The flank is horizontally brushed with a fine grain running through the bulging side ears, while the fixed octagonal bezel has more pronounced vertical brushing across the top.

The bezel edge is polished, and the mix of brushing direction, polished finish, and different grain textures gives the watch more structure than a simple polished budget case. The limitation appears in the transitions. The bevels are smooth to the touch, but visually they could be sharper and more clearly defined. Movement & Crown

Inside the Poedagar 853 is a standard Chinese quartz movement. It runs at one tick per second, keeping the mechanical side of the watch simple and firmly in budget territory.

The dial does include a day-date complication, which adds real practical value to the watch. Interestingly, the day wheel appears to use English and English rather than two different languages. Sunday is shown in red, which gives the display a small traditional touch.

On the right-hand side, there is a signed guarded push-pull crown measuring 6.3mm across. The crown is another small detail that helps the watch look more complete than the price might suggest.

Turning the watch over reveals a snap-on caseback with the key specifications around the edge. These include a stainless steel back, 30 meters of water resistance, and the model number.

Bezel

The fixed octagonal bezel is one of the defining visual elements of the 853. It sits above the case flank and gives the watch the angular, integrated sports-watch shape that the design is trying to capture.

The brushing on top of the bezel is more vertically pronounced than the brushing on the case flank, and that directional contrast helps the front of the watch feel more structured. The polished bezel edge adds a separate highlight line around the dial opening.

This is not a functional bezel. It does not rotate and does not carry a timing scale. Its role is architectural, giving the watch its frame, its stance, and much of its recognisable character.

Bracelet

The bracelet is where the budget construction becomes more obvious. In the hand, it is a bit rattly and does not have the dense, solid feel of a more refined integrated bracelet.

Visually, it tries to give the impression of a three-link design, with a wider center section and smaller outer sections. Structurally, it is essentially a single-link pressed bracelet shaped to mimic a more complex construction. The links are pressed steel rather than solid links, and the bracelet is held together by push pins.

When the bracelet is stretched or flexed, visible gaps appear between the links, and the tolerances are not particularly tight. That said, it wears better than it feels in the hand.

The reason is the short link length, which is around 7.8mm. Because the links are shorter than the usual 9mm to 10mm style, the bracelet manages to sit more acceptably on the wrist.

At the clasp, there is a signed butterfly-style setup. There are no half links, so fine adjustment is limited, but the taper from 26mm at the case integration to 18mm at the clasp keeps the end of the bracelet more manageable.

Crystal & Dial

The dial is where the Poedagar 853 presents itself better than the construction. Looking through the flat mineral crystal, the eye is guided downward by a straight, piping-style rehaut that leads into the main dial surface.

The dial itself is piano gloss black with a subtle sunburst effect. It is not a completely flat black surface. At sharper angles, it can shift toward a graphite gray tone, giving the dial a little more depth and movement.

Around the outer edge, just under the rehaut, there is a white printed minute chaptering that keeps the dial neatly framed and legible. The hour markers are applied batons, edged in chrome, with white lume plots running through the center. At 12, there is a double baton that gives the dial a clear orientation point.

Branding is handled better than on some older Poedagar models. Under 12, there is an applied chrome emblem with Poedagar written in cursive. Above 6, there is just one word: “Quartz.” There are no extra slogans crowding the dial.

The lume is where expectations need to stay grounded. There is green lume on the hands and dial markers, but it is not especially bright and will not last throughout the night. It is there, and it works briefly, but this is not strong tool-watch lume.
